It is with great sorrow that we share the news of Davison Mghanga Kimigho’s passing. He was a father, a husband, and to all of us at Ona, a friend, valued colleague, and part of our Ona Family. We lost Davison to a tragic accident over the Christmas holidays, a time that will forever be etched in our memories. We remember him and his fantastic achievements towards the Ona mission to serve where need is greatest by using data to transform lives.

We remember Davison’s contributions to our work on FHIR, where he had a crucial hand as a member of the FHIR Core Dev team, building a Mobile Aggregate Data Exchange (mADX) Profile to support interoperable public health reporting of aggregate health data. As a lead engineer for mADX, Davison was instrumental in the initial research and development needed to understand how to integrate this standard into OpenSPR FHIR Core, our open source product for FHIR native management of digital health clinical workflows. His contributions were also valuable in streamlining our code base and contributing to what we refer as our Single APK Approach by defining configurable applications that are easily scalable and testable.

We remember Davison’s smile and attitude towards life. During our 2021 virtual company retreat, he gave a lightning talk on healthy living, which included having a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, not smoking and limiting alcohol intake. He gave the team quite a laugh at this ‘tall order’ considering it was the festive season.

Though his time with us and on this planet — 32 years young at the time of his passing — was brief, we will not forget his memory and continue to pursue and live his legacy and his ambitions in the work we do.

Thank you, Davison. You will be greatly missed.
